¹³ Three of the Thirty went down and came to David at the Cave of Adullam at the time of the grain harvest. A band of Philistines was camping in the Valley of Rephaim. ¹⁴ David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was in Bethlehem. ¹⁵ David expressed a deep craving, “Who will give me water to drink from the well^[a] of Bethlehem, which is by the gate?”
